About Me

My name is Janice Smith. I have been researching family trees, and family and local history for over 15 years. I began researching my own family history after completing a degree in History at The Open University. A desire to fill out the stories, led me to undertake a post graduate course at the University of Dundee. I graduated with a MLitt in Family and Local History in 2018 and have now turned my passion into a business to help other people find out the hidden stories in their past. I am a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG) and the Association of Scottish Genealogists and Researchers in Archive (ASGRA).

I research using online and archive resources and I can provide local context to research results. I am available for research anywhere in the United Kingdom but my main area of expertise is Scotland. I am located close to the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh and archives in the central belt and the borders. My own research interests cover the Lothians, Scottish Borders, the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the travelling show community in Scotland and Scottish links with slavery.

I am a professional genealogist, family and local historian. Contact me for help to find your family tree stories.

I also welcome the opportunity to collaborate on local history and larger projects.
